Summer In The City, But Maybe Not Every Weekend

Philadelphia is a bit different than other cities during the summer time. If you are a native then going away on the weekends in the summer to the mountains or the beach is not that strange. However, for those not aware there is a summer weekend culture here that is unique. You may like it or not, either way you will have to adjust because the beach weekend trend is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Co-workers and friends from places such as Northern New York, Ohio and Virginia are not always used to it. They don’t seem to understand the phenomenon of Philly people leaving the city for the weekend. It is also not just people living within Philadelphia’s city limits. Our friends in the burbs can’t resist the pull of the beach and mountains when the weather is nice.

The good news is that we are not like New York City where everyone who lives in Manhattan escapes to the Hamptons or Connecticut. Whether you are in the suburbs of Bucks county or in the crowded streets of South Philadelphia our own summer weekend getaways call. The choices are endless including the Poconos, Asbury Park, Avalon, LBI, Brigantine, Atlantic City, Cape May, Ocean City, Wildwood, or further south to Rehoboth Beach or Dewey Beach, DE.

With only an average of an hour and a half commute from city to beach why wouldn’t you go every weekend. You mean people in other sections of the country don’t dream about their own beach house or condo from the age of eight? So, if you are jealous of coworkers leaving at 1 pm on Friday just stop, adapt and find a friend that house a beach house.

If the beach or mountains are not your thing, it’s a great time to reconnect with the city and explore new things.

What do you think are the most popular beach destinations for Philly folks?
